Course Descriptions

 

Principles of Occupational Safety & Health (POSH)

 Training Goal

You will be able to make decisions about the safety and health training needs of your workforce: needs analysis, performance objectives, instructional strategy and methods, content, media, delivery, evaluation, and costs.

 

POSH is a 4 day (30 hour) course focusing on the knowledge and skills required to assess your training needs; as well as to plan, organize, create, and deliver safety and health training programs.

 

Why Should You Attend

If you are responsible for the planning, development, and delivery of safety and health programs, POSH will provide the necessary knowledge and skills to assess your needs and delivery performance-based training.

 

During Training, You Will

Ø Learn strategies that address adult learning needs

Ø Complete a training needs analysis

Ø Identify training and non-training solutions for safety and health case studies

Ø Calculate direct and indirect training costs

Ø Discuss training issues with other safety professionals

Ø Plan and design a custom training program. 

 

Safety Training Methods (STM)

What It Is:

A targeted program to help you successfully manage employees and safety and health

projects.  Through activities, presentations, and group discussions, SMT offers methods and

techniques for implementing the principles outlined in POSH.

 

Who It's For:

SMT is for anyone responsible for coordinating, supervising, or managing a company's safety

and health efforts.

 

What You'll Do:

Ø Define your leadership role as a problem solver and decision maker

Ø Learn how to manage change, conduct safety audits, work with a safety and health   committee, and budget for a safety and health efforts.

Ø Develop your management skills and increase your effectiveness

Ø Determine when and how to delegate safety authority

Ø Improve your interviewing and consulting techniques

Ø Understand how individual and organizational dynamics impact safety and heath

Ø Participate in discussions of real-life experiences with other safety professionals

Ø Start a multi-year management plan based on your company's safety and health practices

 

Fundamentals of Industrial Hygiene (FIH)

What It Is:

An essential course for developing an understanding of industrial hygiene terminology,

principles, and practices in general industry.  FIH provides a broad view of operational issues in

layman's terms.

 

Who It's For:

FIH is a "must-attend" for anyone with industrial hygiene responsibilities, especially those with

limited training or direct experience.  It's appropriate for supervisors, as well as those carrying

out walk-through surveys.

 

What You'll Do:

Ø Learn to participate, recognize, and evaluate factors that cause work-related illness

Ø Get a comprehensive overview of more than a dozen relevant topics, including:

        Ø Anatomy and physiology

        Ø Toxicology

        Ø Chemical hazards (liquid, gases, vapors, and particulates)

        Ø Biological hazards

        Ø Walkthrough surveys

        Ø Air sampling

        Ø Sound measurement

        Ø Ventilation

        Ø Personal Protective equipment

        Ø Respiratory protection

        Ø Safety and health programs/agencies

        Ø Government standards and voluntary guidelines

Ø Examine the key processes in an effective industrial hygiene effort, plus best practices for implementation

Ø Train to conduct walk-through surveys and perform basic air and noise monitoring

Ø Discuss when to use a qualified/certified industrial hygienist

Ø Participate in a variety of educational activities, including small and large group discussions, problem analyses, and equipment demonstrations with hands-on practice

Ø Create valuable business contacts and share your experience with other safety professional

Ø Get a jump start on creating an industrial hygiene plan for your facility.
